This is my sixth year sharing what I have been reading on the blog and I am so grateful for this little community. Sharing about books and new authors is always one of my favorite things to do. The new year started strong with a lot of good books and a few new recent adds to my bookshelf.

What I Read in January 2024

January Book Reviews

Alone With You in the Ether: this book was a random TikTok purchase that sat on my shelves for MONTHS and I wish it hadn’t! A modern romance told unlike anything else out there. This story is one about love, mental health, and medication. I was engrossed the entire time and highly recommend you read the acknowledgments section as well.

Paved Paradise: I am not going to lie, this book took me a little over a month to read. But I loved every second of it! I listened to this book on Audible and found it to be entertaining and informative. This book is all about parking and the impact it has on you and our communities. It’s easy to just not think about parking, even though it’s something you likely do or are impacted by every day. After reading this book I was ready to get rid of my car and start learning more about how other cities and communities are set up with pedestrians the focus and not the car you park.

Yours For The Taking: the first Literary League book club pick for the month was maybe my favorite book of January! I don’t want to give too much away but this book is set in the year 2050 and the world is ending. It won’t be safe to live on earth so a project begins called The Inside Project that is exactly like it sounds. Massive structures for people to live inside as the world burns. But who and why you are selected seems to be a mystery. I referred to this as The Handmaid’s Tale but Girl Boss edition.

Under The Influence: this was such a fun book to listen to and personally, I found 1.5x the perfect speed for this book! Think of The Devil Wears Prada but instead of the editor of Vogue our “devil” is a massive influencer star. This book is a peek behind the curtain and let me tell you it’s not all sunshine and rainbows behind it.

The Road Trip: another book that has sat on my shelves for a little too long. This romance was such a delight to read. It has a then-now timeline and is a second-chance romance. When exes who haven’t spoken in years end up on a road trip together to their mutual best friend’s wedding things don’t go exactly to plan.

Added to the Shelves

Since I have been writing these posts for so long, I thought it would be fun to add a new section sharing what books I have bought or been sent in the past month. It’ll help keep new adds top of mind and this way you can see what’s in my to-be-read pile!

First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston

Good Material by Dolly Alderton

In the Kitchen Essays on Food and Life by Nigel Slater

Instead of doing what I thought I was supposed to be doing, I got intentional. I started asking “what if” all the time and I stopped putting so much pressure on myself to do things at the perfect time or the right way. Instead I took a little leap here and another there to create a life I love.
