I am back with a new social media platform that there is a WHOLE lot of chatter about recently.
If you are new here, welcome, I am Bailey, a social media and marketing consultant with a goal to help you create a business that you actually LOVE. I share marketing tips and tricks and help offer sustainable solutions for small business owners who need to market their businesses on a budget.
What is Lemon8?
Lemon8 is a new social media app that was created by ByteDance. If the name ByteDance sounds familiar, that’s because it is! They are the company behind TikTok and they are topping charts on the App Store again.
Lemon8 is best described as a photo and video share social platform that focuses on content surrounding lifestyle, wellness, travel, food, and beauty. Personally, I think the best way to think of it is if Pinterest and Instagram had a baby it would be Lemon8.
Although this app is getting a lot of chatter now it is not as new as everyone thinks. It launched in 2020 in Japan and reached over 5 million monthly active users in 2022.
A Few Things to Know Before Using Lemon8
- The cover photo you share should be text heavy and let users know what the post is about. This is one of the most important things you can do.
- Your posts should fall under one of the following six categories to get good engagement: fashion, beauty, food, wellness, travel, or home.
- Captions tend to be short and to the point on this app.
- Use bullet points in captions to help drive engagement.
- Some users are utilizing captions as mini blog posts, but this is not yet common practice.
- If you are trying to grow your account, engage and interact with similar profiles to yours. This will help the algorithm share your profile with people who have similar audiences.
Why should I care about Lemon8?
If you are a small business owner or work in marketing or just like to learn about what’s happening in the world it’s always helpful to know about new platforms. Especially when they start receiving 17 million downloads.
For creators and business owners, now is a great time to jump on the app and start testing content if you have the time and resources to support it. Since the platform is newer and still growing and developing it is the perfect time to get in early! But I know that getting in early just isn’t always possible (you might even be reading this a year later and early is gone) so if that’s you please just reserve your username and direct your bio to a platform people CAN find you. It’s the bare minimum but it will allow you to keep your name and eventually utilize the app.
If as a creator or business owner, you don’t feel like you’ve found your app (the place you love to go to connect with your community regularly), I always recommend trying something new that’s getting more and more traction, because you get to help make up the rules a little bit. Since there are fewer creators on this app, there is less competition for your content to reach other users which can lead to big wins sometimes. So, if this sounds like you, dedicate some time to trying out Lemon8!
One of the reasons you are hearing so much about this app and that it is growing rapidly is because of paid efforts. ByteDance has increased efforts to pay creators to use and promote this app more recently. This is a commonly used marketing strategy and is a great way for creators to be compensated.
