September was a month filled with audiobooks! I had the very best intentions to fill my September with cozy fall reads, but the reality did not match up. I finished one physical book, DNF’d another book and finished three audiobooks this month. All of these books were such great reads/listens so if you have been considering them, definitely add them to your TBR pile.

What I Read in September 2023

Yellowface: all I can say is this book is worth the hype! Everyone I know has been raving about this book all summer and I totally get it. This book proposes such an important conversation on racism in the publishing industry, cancel culture, who should be telling what stories, and was so well done. This would make a great book club pick!

Before We Were Innocent: normally I am a non-fiction audiobook lady only, but this book was unputdownable. This book follows two female friends in a then-now timeline. Three best friends go to Europe for the summer, but only two of them return. The two friends have been estranged for 10 years, but are thrown back together when trouble arises. I don’t want to give anything away, this was such a fun read!

Glossy: everyone was talking about this book a couple of weeks ago, and even as a non-Glossier shopper my interest was piqued. This deep dive into how Glossier came to be, what made it so special, and of course we learn about the scandals too. I thought this book was such a good look into the start-up culture and unrealistic expectations set on young businesses.

Paris: The Memoir: I did not know exactly what I was signing up for with the memoir and whoa! Paris Hilton narrates the audiobook and I highly recommend hearing her story in her own voice. This book does have a lot of trigger warnings because she shares about her time in Utah at boarding schools for troubled youths. Her story is truly inspiring, and for those who don’t know much about the Hilton Heireiss, I highly recommend downloading this today.

Instead of doing what I thought I was supposed to be doing, I got intentional. I started asking “what if” all the time and I stopped putting so much pressure on myself to do things at the perfect time or the right way. Instead I took a little leap here and another there to create a life I love.
