This past month of reading was filled with such a mixed bag of genres and types of books, but boy were they great reads! I should warn you in advance all of these books were four to five-star reads and I can’t wait to dive into the reviews.
What I Read in April
Butcher & Blackbird: this was such a wild ride of a read! I had been hearing a lot about this book because of the content warnings page. Which has eyeballs and eyesockets, accidental cannibalism, and skin ornaments just to name a few. Surprisingly I found this serial killer romance to be weirdly sweet. If you have a tough stomach then I think this is a fun book to read!
Have I Told You This Already?: Lauren Graham is of course one of my favorite actors because of my Gilmore Girls obsession. But I also love her books! This memoir came out in 2022 and recently the paperback version was released, and she decided to do a book tour. I got a ticket and read this book before attending the event. It’s a fun compilation of stories from her life and the in person event was a blast.
Sociopath: this memoir was top of my list to read when it came out and I am so glad I did! This memoir is about what it is like to be a diagnosed sociopath and serves as one of very few resources to understand and learn more about people with sociopathy. Prepare to learn about all the misconceptions about sociopathy. I also really enjoyed the love story that unfolded through this book.
The Ministry of Time: Avid Reader Press sent me this book and I am so glad they did because this was outside of my normal picks. A story of time travel, love, and a spy thriller. I truly loved guessing (incorrectly) what waas going to happen next in this book. I thought the historical references were really fun and interesting and I loved how this book crossed so many different genres.
Worry: the entire time I was reading this book I kept saying how grateful I was to have a book like this in the world. It does such a good job at depicting what a wild, post-factual, and truly insane age we live in. This age of information or disinformation. It perfectly depicts what it is to be online and also trying to live a moral life in a capitalist society. Worry follows two sisters living together in NYC and trying to navigate the absurd world we live in. And to top it all off this book was laugh-out-loud funny. Highly recommend will absolutely be peer pressuring people into reading this book.
Funny Story: if you have been here for a while then you know Emily Henry is my all-time favorite author. She has written another amazing book! I won’t give away too much but being caught up in Daphne and Mile’s relationship for a week was such a treat. This book has mouth-watering food descriptions and has one of my favorite tropes fake dating.
