I often wonder how I’m supposed to fit in working out with school, work and internships.
I try to find the balance between the go, go, go lifestyle and the “all I want to do is lay in bed and watch Netflix” lifestyle but usually the answer I come up with is … “suck it up and get to the gym”.
Even though I’d rather jump in bed and skip the gym, I have started to notice that I accomplish more and feel better with even just a little extra exercise in my life. I have also been trying to incorporate more fun into my fitness routine, check out some of those tips here.
Finding the fun in working out and these foolproof tips can help you workout even with everything else you have on your plate.
Here are a few of the things I do to fit it all in.
Just do something: It’s hard for me to commit to going to the gym or taking a class but a 10 minute at home workout is possible. This might not deliver the results of a daily gym session but hey if I get my heart rate up even just for those few minutes, that’s better than nothing. Here are a few of my favorite quick workouts.
Set your Fitbit to remind you to move: My Fitbit reminds me to stand up and move every hour. This not only helps me avoid feeling like I just sat for five hours straight, but it also reinvigorates me throughout the workday.
Sign up for a weekly class: I have signed up for Pilates every Thursday this semester. It has always been so easy to push off working out but with this commitment, I schedule fitness first and add the other stuff around it.
Wake Up Earlier: I have been setting my alarm 15-30 minutes earlier than normal and it has been a lifesaver. Having an extra 15 minutes to pack a workout bag or get a head start on work so I can leave work a little early makes all the difference. This does not mean you have to be up before the sun but try out giving yourself a few extra minutes and skip the snooze button.
