A new month has arrived which means it’s time for me to share everything I read last month. I was really struggling the first two months of 2022 to read and have it be “fun.” It was feeling a little like a chore. Not sure what shifted in March, but I was cruising through books and got through a lot of the ones that I had started but hadn’t finished. If you are feeling like you’re in a little bit of a reading rut don’t worry, it comes in waves.
Everything I Read in March 2022
Black Cake: this book was phenomenal and is definitely going to the top of my recommendations list. This book follows two estranged siblings after their mother’s death where they learn that their mother had a whole lot of secrets to reveal. This was Charmaine Wilkerson’s debut novel and all I can say is that I will be reading ANYTHING she writes.
The Ex-Boyfriend Yard Sale: I listened to this on Audible and highly recommend you do the same. In this funny and heartfelt memoir, Haley McGee sets out to calculate the cost of love, while trying to get out of debt, work on her current relationship, and build her career. I haven’t heard many people talk about this book and I don’t know why. I was laughing and crying alongside Haley in this beautiful story.
The Tobacco Wives: last month’s Literary League pick was a delight to read. This historical fiction novel was placed in North Carolina in the 40s when the tobacco industry was booming. We follow a 15-year old dressmaker who takes on a whole world of responsibility, designing dresses for the tobacco wives and uncovering some of the darker findings in North Carolina.
The Break-Up Book Club: if you are or have ever been part of a book club then this book is for you. This book follows a book club that has been around for a very long time and the friendships that are made, the support they get from each other, and a whole lot of drama. I found myself smiling throughout this entire book.
Inheritance: this is a very short prequel novella only available on Audible from the American Royals series. This series is based on the premise that George Washington became the first King of America, instead of President. Start with book one if you are new to this series and stay tuned for another book later this spring.
Good Rich People: I couldn’t go the whole month without a thriller. Good Rich People is thoroughly disturbing and I highly recommend it. It really begs the question: what do bored rich people do when they have done it all? I won’t say anything else because I don’t want to spoil anything.
