We are officially in one of my favorite reading times of the year! There are so many amazing books that have been or are just about to be released for summer reading. Honestly, I am a little overwhelmed trying to decide what to read next.

The month of May included a lot of beach reads that I thoroughly enjoyed. If you haven’t already picked these up I highly recommend doing so!

What I Read in May 2024

Expiration Dates: this was my first Rebecca Searle book and it did not disappoint. The premise of this book is that before or shortly after meeting a new man, Daphne receives a piece of paper with the length of time they will be together. But this time is different, there is no expiration date. And if that doesn’t have you hooked I don’t know what will! I didn’t see the twists coming in this book and the writing is just so good.

The Sicilian Inheritance: I listened to this on audio and LOVED it! If you enjoy multi-generational stories, mysteries, and beautiful settings then I recommend you download this book. The story is inspired by the author’s own mysterious family history in Sicily, and there is a podcast that she hosts uncovering her actual family story!

The Husbands: I cannot stop talking about this book. The line that sold me? “Don’t like your husband? That’s okay, just return him to the attic and we will send down a new one.” I mean come on that is amazing. Lauren returns home one night to find she’s no longer single, in fact, there is a husband she’s never met in her home. I don’t want to give any spoilers, this book was a delight and although controversial I thought the ending was perfect.

Real Americans: we read this for the Literary League book club and I am so glad because I would have never picked this up on my own. But, be warned once you start this book you will not be able to put it down. A multi-generational story that aims to answer the question of how inevitable are our futures. It’s immersive, thought provoking, and perfect for right now.

This Summer Will Be Different: Carley Fortune is back with another beach read just in time for summer. This book is spicier than her last two and is just so fun! Set on Prince Edward Island, filled with forbidden romance, delicious oysters, vino verde, and a journey of self-discovery you won’t regret bringing this to the pool or beach this summer.

How to End a Love Story: this was one of my most anticipated reads of the year and it exceeded my expectations. Helen hasn’t seen Grant in over a decade, since the car wreck that killed her sister, until her best-selling books are turned into a TV series and they are suddenly working together. No spoilers for this book, but the last quarter of  it was so beautifully written and I will never stop talking about it.

p.s. this author, Yulin Kuang, is the screenwriter for Emily Henry’s books!

Instead of doing what I thought I was supposed to be doing, I got intentional. I started asking “what if” all the time and I stopped putting so much pressure on myself to do things at the perfect time or the right way. Instead I took a little leap here and another there to create a life I love.
