Normally around this time of the year, I spend some time reflecting on the past 12 months but not this year. 2017 was one for the books, my friends. I don’t think I have gone through as many highs and lows before in my life. So, I am choosing to leave it in 2017 and put some extra effort preparing for 2018. The other day I was reading through last years new years post, and it still rings true even today.
In 2018 I will not only be letting go of all the things that haven’t been adding value to my life, but I am also adding a few things as well. In fact, I am adding 5 things. These things, of course, I am only taking on in small amounts, I am looking forward to creating more time for me to enjoy the coming year.
Reading: I used to read ALL the time. I mean one book a week at least, but lately I am lucky to finish a couple a year. I am challenging myself to just read every day. Even if it is only a paragraph from a book, I think working on the habit will help it become something I get excited about. I signed up for the book of the month club and they deliver a new book every month. You can sign up here!
Meditation: This has been a HUGE change for me over the past 4 months. I downloaded the headspace app and it is my favorite way to start out my mornings. I am not saying that this has been an easy journey for me. Sometimes I go a whole week without meditating, but I do notice a big difference when I am using it and being mindful.
Working Out: I recently started using Class Pass (check and see if they are in your city). But basically, I pay $35 a month and can go to 5 classes at almost any studio in SLC. It has given me the opportunity to meet new people, find out what types of fitness classes I like, and push me out of my comfort zone. I am planning on continuing this throughout 2018. If you want a $30 discount on your first pass then click here!
Eating Healthy: Now this is a big one for me. I basically spent the last month of 2017 being sick. The reason? I did not take care of myself enough. If you know me, then you know my diet consists of Cheez-Its, champagne and coffee. Which, as you can probably guess, is not the best for getting healthy or staying healthy. So I am making some radical changes in 2018. I don’t want to tell you just yet what they are, so stay tuned.
More Love: I have been reading my mom’s book (I know, how cool she wrote a book.) and it has reminded me how much we need more love. Love for ourselves and the people in our lives. I think she explains it best when she says, “And saying or thinking you love yourself is not enough either. Love is reflected in your daily choices.” Feel free to check out her amazing book here.
I hope you have a NYE filled with dancing, friends, and maybe even a little champagne. And if 2017 wasn’t your best year yet, I am wishing you more love.
So cute, and loving this post! Definitely trying to be a happier person in 2018 🙂
